What can you expect from PROBUS?

Talks

Most lunches are followed by a talk/presentation. These are relating to topics that are varied, sometimes regarding local issues, others of or more national or global nature. The speakers are either invited ‘guests’, or sometimes members of Charlbury Probus itself. The format varies. It may be straight talk, or more often than not accompanied by slides or a video. The presentation usually lasts about 45 minutes which includes time for questions. At the conclusion the speaker is given one final task, and that is to make the draw for a bottle of wine which is then presented to the winning diner.

Lunch

The lunch starts with diners meeting about half an hour before the lunch. During this time there is an opportunity to chat with people and purchase drinks from the bar. The seating plan is decided by the diner taking a ‘ticket’ and finding the corresponding ‘ticket’ at the tables, providing a seating plan designed to give diners a chance to meet with others. A few words of welcome are then given by the Chair followed by the lunch being served. The lunch is usually two courses followed by coffee or tea. Any special dietary requirements can be catered for if advance notice is provided. To find out about our next lunch event please visit our events page.

Events

A number of events are organised throughout the year, although most occur during the ‘better weather’ months. These have included theatre visits, the Watermill at Newbury is a particular favourite, outings that include coach travel to popular destinations and sometimes lunch. There are also ‘small group’ trips which may be organised by members and have a more local flavour, such as locations of historical or cultural interest. Any member with a particular interest may organise a small group trip/event. Charlbury Probus also holds social events such as a summer BBQ, or a Christmas Lunch. For upcoming events visit our events Page
