In this talk James Price gave us an insight into the numerous challenges facing farmers in 2022 and how these have changed over the years. James comes from a family with a farming background and is a director of the company running Perdiswell farm near Woodstock. He has a particular interest in nutrient management and sits on a DEFRA expert group which is working in this area. After graduating in agriculture at Cirencester he became involved in the family business and was voted Young Farmer of the Year in 2009. He is now deputy county chairman of the local farmers’ union. The company farm a total of 3200 acres but only own some 346 acres, the rest being tenanted and contract farmed. It is situated near Woodstock, around the airport. When his grandfather bought the farm he had a herd of pedigree Jersey cows which were hand milked and supplied milk to the Oxford and Cambridge Milk Bar, which he owned.
