What is Charlbury Probus Club?
A club to meet new friends, have fun, participate in a monthly lunch and other activities.
We are mainly an association, but not exclusively, of retired people who come together in a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-profit way, providing regular opportunities for members to meet others in similar circumstances, with similar levels of interest, make new friends, and maintain and expand their interests. Anyone is welcome at any time. See our events page for upcoming lunches and events.
Probus was founded in the UK in the mid-1960s by Rotarians who wanted to retire gracefully from fundraising but maintain the fellowship of Rotary. There are now 4,500 clubs worldwide, although its greatest concentrations is in Great Britain (2,500), Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Many clubs today exist in all parts of the world, including the US, Belgium, India, Portugal, Holland, Germany, South Africa and several in Africa and Asia.
Members are encouraged to make contact and visit each other; several have special links like the local Probus Woodstock Club with the similarly named in Canada. Charlbury Probus does not specifically raise funds for Charity but is willing to support others.
