Prof. John Dora – Designing for Climate Change
John Dora has had over 40 years’ experience working in infrastructure, particularly in flood defence and in railways. His experience has spanned research, construction and maintenance activities on British Rail, Network Rail and the Environment Agency – at one time managing the River Thames catchment upstream of Maidenhead. Alongside his expertise in managing infrastructure, he has become a recognised international expert disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change, these days as a consultant.He first worked on adaptation over 20 years ago, and became Network Rail’s lead on the topic until he left in 2012.
Internationally, he is the global lead for adaptation strategy at the International Standards Organisation and he won an award for his work leading the drafting of the ISO 14090 standard on climate adaptation – the first international standard dedicated to adaptation to climate change. John is currently helping the UN develop transport resilience guidance and in advising on European design codes and standards for construction.
